ABB C1® - Postbiotic for immune support

ABB C1® is a synergistic postbiotic combining a yeast β‑glucan complex with zinc‑ and selenium‑enriched mineral yeasts, which contribute to the normal function of the immune system. Its formulation has been studied for its effects on innate and adaptive immune responses, with mechanistic research exploring trained immunity pathways. 250–750 mg/day.

ABB C1® – Key features

  • Synergistic combination of postbiotics: yeast β-glucans complex and mineral yeasts enriched with selenium and zinc
  • Studied across key immune response pathways (innate, adaptive and trained immunity)
  • Investigated in relation to early‑stage immune response pathways
  • Explored for markers linked to immune response balance
  • Associated with trained immunity mechanisms in mechanistic studies

Science supporting ABB C1®

ABB C1® is supported by mechanistic and clinical research investigating its role across multiple immune response pathways.
Studies have explored its involvement in innate immune response, adaptive immune signalling, and trained immunity mechanisms.
A clinical study has also examined parameters related to immune system responsiveness.
Together, these findings position ABB C1® as an ingredient investigated for its role across key immune response pathways.

Charaterisation

Composition
ABB C1® is a synergistic combination of postbiotics based on inactivated Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast:

  • Yeast 1,3/1,6 β-glucans complex: Combination of two sources of yeast cell walls rich in β-1,3/1,6-glucans
  • Mineral yeast enriched with selenium and zinc: Inactivated whole cells of yeast enriched with minerals

Recommended daily dosage: 250-750 mg/day

Understanding Immunity

The immune system is organised into several complementary layers that work together to help the body remain prepared and responsive to external stimuli.

INNATE IMMUNITY

Innate immunity is the body’s first line of defence, reacting quickly and non‑specifically through physical barriers and frontline immune cells such as macrophages, phagocytic cells, dendritic cells and NK cells.

ADAPTIVE IMMUNITY

Adaptive immunity develops more slowly but provides highly specific responses through T cells, B cells and the antibodies they produce, along with a memory component that allows for a more efficient reaction upon re‑exposure.

TRAINED IMMUNITY

Trained immunity is considered an intermediate layer between innate and adaptive immunity. It refers to a temporary state of increased responsiveness in innate immune cells following an initial stimulus, contributing to immune readiness over a defined period.
Alongside innate and adaptive immunity, these layers work together to coordinate early responses and longer‑term, more specific immune processes.

When the immune system encounters a stimulus, naïve CD4+ T cells can develop into different T‑helper cell types that contribute to immune balance.

Th1, Th2 and Th17 cells support different immune response pathways, while regulatory T cells (Tregs) help control these responses to maintain immune tolerance.

These interconnected T‑cell pathways illustrate how the immune system combines activation and regulation to maintain a controlled and effective response. In this context, ABB C1® is positioned within scientific research exploring interactions across these different immune pathways.

Clinical findings – trained immunity–related observations

Clinical findings from a controlled study are consistent with trained immunity mechanisms, as explored in this specific study population.
Following vaccination, a stable, time‑dependent increase in T‑cell subsets (CD3⁺, CD4⁺ and CD8⁺) was observed in participants receiving ABB C1®, while this pattern was not observed in the placebo group.

In addition, higher IgG and IgM levels were observed in the ABB C1® group following COVID‑19 vaccination compared with placebo, as assessed within the study timeframe.

Taken together, these findings suggest a potential effect on cellular and antibody‑mediated immune response parameters, as observed in this clinical study.
In this population, ABB C1® was associated with trained immunity–related markers compared with placebo, without extrapolation beyond the study context.
